A Tisket, a Tasket…How to Make a Vegas Basket!

Posted on Apr 2 2014 - 8:51am by Brenda Meehan

I received a request email from Stephanie, who used to work for me many years ago. When I managed a Downtown Improvement Area in North Bay, Canada. Her boss and his wife were coming to Las Vegas for a weekend getaway and for a convention. Stephanie asked for suggestions on what she could send them as a surprise. We offered to personalize a basket that they would receive upon arrival.

Having worked with me, Stephanie immediately sent me the details…she knew I needed to get started..,so let’s “Event it” shall we!

3P “Basket” Basics:

– Give a timeline: such as…arriving within a 3 day window

– Location to be delivered: Pallazzo

–  Budget:  $50=75

–  Likes and Favorites:  this is a really important 3P basic – when you add items that people are receiving, knowing what was chosen was especially for them takes the gift to another level. It no longer gives your gift a generic look, instead it says “this is special and just for me”. Let’s face it…personalization is always the key to unique events and gifts.

BasketCollage

Pulling a gift basket together yourself keeps your cost down and allows you to often “one stop shop” at the grocery store, and you can keep it simple. When we picked Las Vegas souvenir items a local CVS that screamed “Welcome to Las Vegas”, they gave us a Vegas touch without “Strip” prices. I combined them with coupons I keep on hand at the house AND their favorite items:

– Wine
– Beef jerky
– Coca Cola
– Dark chocolate and a few other snack and convenience items we were all set and ready to wrap it up.

We were able to re-use a basket we had on hand, and by adding tissue paper  to the bottom of the basket, some brightly colored netting for filler, and a Vegas post card to our palm tree picture holder…everything came together in a snap!

We were even able to put together a smaller “basket” in a Sierra Nevada Ale box to keep on hand for the next Vegas visitor in need! Just a few drinks, some snacks, some cards and a big Vegas Welcome! Recycling the beer box kept our costs down, and yet added to our Vegas theme!

Stephanie’s boss now has everything he needs to enjoy his stay plus a few items to bring back. But more importantly, his employee’s thoughtfulness will be remembered and associated with his terrific Las Vegas vacation forever.
