Holiday Wreaths: Weathered and New!

Posted on Dec 16 2013 - 10:10am by Jessi Meehan

So, we’ve made our “Snourds and Snowkins”…we’ve started putting together our Holiday Home Decor….now it’s time to add the finishing touches with Holiday Wreaths, both fresh and perfectly preserved! One fantastic event basic that is affordable, easy to do, and unique…is to use wreaths to ground your favorite pieces in high traffic areas. The wreath used below to ground our Christmas candles and a fresh pot of poinsettias, was a fresh and real evergreen. Our coffee table in the living room is adorned with a wreath we’ve had for years and just fluffed up and set on an existing plate.

A fast and simple way to add some Christmas cheer to the living room is to add Christmas coffee table books that you already have. It adds height, dimension, and even grounding for Holiday candles or tea-lights. They’re also handy and accessible when looking for a new recipe or idea. We will be sharing a few from our coffee table books this season.

We have a festive garland with miniature lights and fruit that is customary to hang above our fireplace, and this year we added some sparkling ornaments to brighten it right up. We also have been collecting that awesome scented (and FREE) evergreen, which we used create a miniature yet lovely, fresh and real décor piece to finish our look. We piled up the fresh evergreen, added a few cute wood circles from the tree shop as well, complimented with a few bright green ornaments. Took less than 5 minutes, and the look and smell was just what we wanted to achieve. By adding a few sparkle sticks from Michaels in our Christmas box, we tied this resident vase into our vignette.

Another focus point that everyone loves is that unique and custom lamp my Mom’s friends gave us on our bar. We managed to use some bright and festive lime green Christmas branches (yes, from our Christmas box) to make it really pop! And again,  it took  less than a few minutes and we were able to use and simply rearrange some of the pinecones from our fall décor. Combining seasonal décor with your main home pieces gives you the best of both worlds. Holiday meets your existing home décor and a tasteful synergistic look is created.

We also added a final wreath to the buffet in our dining room. We have a sparkling crystal bowl, that looks like frosty ice and has been in our family for almost 20 years…and with a small Christmas wreath underneath it to ground it…it really shines. We were able to tie the whole room together just by adding a simple piece from our traditional family collection.

Love your ideas. Only a week before Christmas and I finally got a wreath for my door. I love it when I can get a real one because you can smell the pine every time you leave or come home. This is my Happy Holiday.
