“No More Sleeps Until Christmas!” – Jessi’s Holiday Happy

Posted on Dec 6 2013 - 8:26am by Jessi Meehan

My Mom never counts the days until something happens; she counts “how many sleeps”. Such as, “how many sleeps until I get to see you?” It’s something she’s always said, that’s always made me smile. So, when I think about my “Holiday Happy”, the first thing that comes to mind is my favorite Christmas decoration that helps count the “sleeps” until Christmas! We’ve had it in our home for as long as I can remember, and it’s always been a source of a little bit of playful sibling rivalry. It’s our chalkboard where we count down the days or “sleeps” until Christmas! Every year when my Mom and I begin unpacking all of the holiday decorations and I unwrap the cute little chalkboard I still get excited. When we were younger, my siblings or I would wake up for school in the morning, come down to the kitchen, grab the tiny piece of chalk and subtract a day.

Then one of us would go and erase what the other had written and re-write it ourselves. Each of us always wanted to be the one to have our writing on the board, and it’s now become a running silly joke as we’re all adults. I still love to change the number of “sleeps” everyday. Every time I see it, I smile.  I even still get a kick out of changing the days to 365 on Christmas morning!  That little chalkboard will forever be my “Holiday Happy”.
