Patriotic Desserts for the 4th AND Canada Day!! + The Perfect 4th of July Hostess Gift

Over the years, my Mom and my brother John have made this awesome All-American dessert…a flag cake! It’s the perfect dish to bring to your upcoming 4th of July parties, it’s cool and delicious. And with everything red, white, and blue on the shelves at the Dollar Tree…we were able to whip up a cute hostess gift to go along with our dessert!

Here’s how to make this tasty American treat from Kraft!:

4 cups fresh strawberries
1 pkg. (12 oz.) prepared pound cake, cut into 12-14 slices (enough to evenly line bottom of dish)
1-1/3 cups blueberries, divided
1 tub (12 oz.) Cool Whip, thawed

Slice 1 cup strawberries; halve remaining strawberries.

Cover bottom of 13×9-inch dish with cake slices; top with sliced strawberries and 1 cup blueberries. Spread Cool Whip over berries.

Arrange strawberry halves and remaining blueberries on Cool Whip to resemble a US flag. Keep refrigerated.

Simple to make, light and cool…a real crowd pleaser for sure!

We also whipped up our own 3P Original version…a cake-in-a-cup if you will, for smaller parties. Bonus: it’s totally portable! If you’re on-the-go: all you have to do is cube up your pound cake, layer it into a red Solo cup with Cool Whip, and berries like trifle…add a few extra to the top with a patriotic pinwheel, flag or even a sparkler:

Now for this gift…we picked up some great pieces from the Dollar Tree and they make for some Practically Perfect gift giving for the 4th!

For our hostess, we added 4th of July plates for the dessert, two sets of American Flag napkins, some red, white, and blue star table scatter, and even red, white and blue LED lights! What better way to celebrate the 4th of July, than with all of these bright and festive items for your table or backyard? 🙂 We ribboned them all up with some beautiful blue ribbon left over from our money lei! We also grabbed a silver star-stick from our Academy Award box, to add some sparkle to our gift! All of this was just $5. 🙂

As an added bonus for our Canadian friends, with Canada Day coming up July 1st…we also created a red and white cake-in-cup for Canada day! Just cube up some pound cake, and layer with Cool Whip and Strawberries + Blueberries in a red Solo cup! We added a truly Canadian touch with maple leaf syrup candies, and a little red pinwheel for some festivity! Happy Canada Day! Stay tuned this summer, as we feature even MORE cake-in-a-cup ideas!

3P Hint: These Maple Leaf Luggage tags can be a great touch to a table as a festive favor or place-card.
