The Man Cave: Superbowl Pig-Skin Pig-Out Part One!

Posted on Jan 17 2015 - 6:30pm by Chris Meehan

Inside the Cave (and near a Grill….) – Here’s tossing you my personal Pigskin Super Bowl preview – Pigs In a Blanket, AND on the Grill! Brenda and Jessi say you can smell the testosterone in the air, and it’s getting stronger daily…Well, why not? It’s almost SUPER BOWL! Nearly five months of gridiron fun, intense Fantasy Football planning (I WON my league!!); soon culminating in the biggest sports day of the year! Before the season started, I picked Green Bay in the NFC, and Indianapolis in the AFC! I know that both are underdogs…but there’s no changing my mind now.

Besides the testosterone, we’ll certainly need to be smelling a lot of more succulent scents such as those from our “secret ingredient” this Super Bowl Sunday – PORK! A sure fire walk-in and start grazing winner is Randy’s “Pig’s in a Blanket!” Always a crowd pleaser as guests start to pig-out a bit right before the game starts! (A quick dip for these savory sausages is Dijon mustard!) All in all, a “can’t miss” treat!

Ingredients:
2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
48 cocktail-size smoked link sausages

The How-To:
1. Heat oven to 375°F. Unroll both cans of the dough; separate into 16 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 narrow triangles.
2. Place sausage on shortest side of each triangle. Roll up each, starting at shortest side of triangle and rolling to opposite point; place point side down on 2 ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown, switching position of cookie sheets halfway through baking. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Serve warm.

I’ll have lot’s of other tasty treats for our guests, but a real pork loving party staple…are Bill’s always fabulous “Slow Cooked then BBQ’d – Pork Ribs!”  Score the recipe HERE!! Easy to do in the oven, and finish them off at halftime on the grill, then serve as a main course dish! (3P tip; have a TV out by the BBQ so you don’t miss any 5 zillion dollar each special Super Bowl TV commercials!) Or possibly another Janet Jackson-type wardrobe malfunction at Halftime!!
